Study on Lethality Effect of Different Quality of Little Fragment to the Personnel Target
Abstract
We studied experimentally and computationally the penetration of two little rhombus fragments into a block of ballistic gelatin for developing an improved understanding of the lethality effect to human soft tissues. During the simulation the gelatin is modeled as an isotropic and homogeneous elastic-plastic material. A high speed camera was used to record the process of the fragment penetrated the gelatin block in the experiment. The experimental and stimulant results showed that the maximum diameter of the temporary cavity and the penetration depth are influenced by the mass and velocity of fragment. Furthermore, the time histories of the velocities and displacements have a same law of the 0.15g and 0.25g rhombus fragments, but the time of the temporary cavity expansion and shrink are different by the two different fragments as the same velocity. The agreement between computed results and experimentally measured ones have also been studied.
