Abstract

This paper presents the aerodynamic characterization of a new concept of long range projectile, fitted with six fins. Three distinct projectile architectures were investigated: two with canted fins, while the last one presents twisted fins. The aerodynamic characteristics are determined based on system identification techniques and free flight data obtained by means of different available measurement techniques like radar, magnetometers, accelerometers and 3D high speed optical system. Estimation results from experimental measurements were com-pared to aerodynamic predictions for two configurations investigated.
