Full-Field Strain Patterns of Sandwich Beams of Different Length under Three-Point Bending
Abstract
Sandwich material has high stiffness and strength with little resulting weight penalty and it has a high-energy absorption capability. Different theories have been proposed to study a sandwich beam’s deformation under load, but experimental verifications are relatively lacking. In particular theoretical and numerical predications are often limited to the global deformation of the beam. Little attention is paid to the stress/strain fields of the core. In this paper, we present some results of the core deformation of three sandwich beams under three-point bending by using the Digital Image Correlation (DIC) method.
