Dependence of Liquid Thermal Conductivity Upon Temperature and Molecular Structure: A Semi-Empirical Approach

G. LATINI, M. SOTTE

Abstract

In the present paper a formula for the prediction of thermal conductivity of liquids along the saturation line is presented. One particular aspect of this formula is focused: a multiplying factor that represents the value of thermal conductivity at a particular temperature is analyzed. The dependence of this value on four thermophysical properties of the fluids (M, Tc, Tb and Tf) is addressed by the construction of a correlation matrix, and three expression are presented. The equation that produces the best fit is then adopted and an extensive test of this formula is performed on a large number of organic fluids in a wide temperature range. Results suggest that the formula is suitable for industrial purposes
