Multichannel Device for Integrated Pitch Catch and EMI Measurements in Guided Wave Structural Health Monitoring Applications
Abstract
This paper presents a device allowing both electromechanical impedance and pitchcatch measurements on multiple channels for structural health monitoring (SHM) applications. Temperature sensors are included for distributed temperature sensing to compensate the temperature effect from the ultrasound signals to enhance the damage detection robustness. The inclusion of an embedded linux system allows remote deployment as well as on-the-fly calculations on the device, e.g. for sensor self-sensing tasks. We provide a detailed description of the devices functionality as well as an evaluation of the EMI capabilities by studying a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) tube structure, as a demonstrator structure of a ships rudder shaft, and calculating damage indicators for a drill damage.
