

Failure Mechanisms and Life Prediction of Thermal Barrier Coatings
Abstract
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) have great potential for many applications due to its good thermal protective feature, high hardness and wear resistance. However, as one of the most complex coating systems, TBCs often show a poor service life. Here, an acoustic emission (AE) real-time monitoring technique and a non-destructive digital image correlation (DIC) technique were used to quantify the damage evolution and analyze the failure mechanism of TBCs. The dangerous regions and the life time of TBCs were predicted based on FEM.
