Abstract

On the basis of the feature of 4-point bending failure for prestressed aramid fiber sheet-reinforced RC beams, a layered shear-lag model with flaw was established to study the stress redistribution of RC beam strengthened by AFRP sheet under 4-point bending, and then the stress distributions for all sub-layers are obtained. Combined with the energy method, the initial cracking of RC beams reinforced by AFRP sheet was studied, and initial cracking loads were got. The results obtained relatively coincide with the existing test values. The present method provides a new research approach for the bending failure of prestressed reinforced components.
