Effect of UV Aging on the Rheological Properties of Asphalt Mortar
Abstract
Ultraviolet radiation (UV) aging of asphalt is an inevitable process in the practical application of asphalt pavement. This paper presented a comprehensive study on the effect of UV aging on rheological properties of asphalt mortar. Asphalt mortar was prepared with a filler to asphalt ratio of 1.0. Thin film asphalt mortar samples were pressed using a dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) instrument. The complex shear modulus (G*) and phase angle(δ) of asphalt mortars were determined using DSR through temperatures sweep tests from -10°C to 35°C. The results indicate that film thickness has a slight influence on the UV aging properties of asphalt mortar. Higher UV aging temperature would result in more serious aging.
