Radio Frequency Identification in Packaging System: Applications and Issues

Abstract

When the goods are in the condition of production, storage, transportation and consumption, the traditional transportation packaging is unable to real-time monitor the cargo status． That will cause some food problems such as spoilage. Application of radio frequency identification （RFID ）technology can improve inventory management, trace the whole process, reduce food waste.Although the adoption of RFID technology is increasing in a number of companies, but the RFID system has not able to get a large number of promotion and application in the field of packaging. The following are some main reasons: high cost of the label, acquisition and processing of large amount of data and different packaging sizes.In this paper, RFID technology, application and problem is reviewed and the corresponding improvement scheme is proposed to promote the application of RFID in package system.
