INTERACTION REGIMES FOR HYPERVELOCITY JET AND FLYING PLATE
Abstract
This paper covers the theoretical and numerical simulation studies performed to investigate the interaction of hypervelocity jet and flying plates. The type of interaction between the jet and the flying plate depends on several variables such as the velocity, thickness, obliquity of the flying plate, and the velocity and diameter of the incoming jet. In this study, four modes of interaction between jet and flyer plate, and necessary conditions for each mode of interaction are proposed, depending on the flyer plate and hypervelocity parameters. Then, these conditions are proved with a simulation study. Simulation results are examined both qualitatively by the deflection of the jet and quantitatively by comparison of momentum transfer on the jet. It is seen that conditions for interaction modes are in agreement with simulation results.
