Abstract

Experimental study was conducted to study the effect of low density natural rubber foam and its combination with high density woollen felt layer and aluminum plate on blast wave mitigation. The experiments were conducted using the blast wave generator in three phases with different test configurations. The configuration – I consists of natural rubber foam and woollen felt, the configuration – II consists of different combination of two rubber foam layers with woollen felt layer and configuration – III consists of combination of two rubber foam layers with 2 mm and 4 mm aluminum plates. The blast wave mitigation was measured in terms of the transmitted wave pressure and impulse. The results showed that the transmitted blast wave pressure and impulse decreased with the use of low density rubber foam layers and its combination with woollen felt and aluminum plates. Further, the effect of high density material position in composite was also studied.
