Simulation Methodology: EM Co-Axial Launcher Using Matlab
Abstract
EM coaxial launcher is an electromagnetic accelerator. It is a non-contact accelerator thus unconstrained to the speed limit of the intermediate mass. In this launcher thrust is dependent on mutual inductance gradient between the moving and stationary coil. Large acceleration can be achieved but the excitation current must be synchronized with the projectile motion. This paper discusses the theory of operation of EM coaxial launcher and an analytical methodology to calculate magnetic forces between thin coaxial multi-turn coils. The methodology is developed by using filamentary method. To design EM launcher numerical computations are required to meet the desired result. We have discussed various profiles such as force, acceleration and velocity simulated by using mentioned methodology.
