Study on Penetration Performance and Distribution Characters of Multi-Explosively Formed Projectiles
Abstract
The aim of the investigations was to improve the penetration performance and distribution homogeneity of MEFP. Using 3D coupled hydrocode of Ls-dyna, influence of the material and geometric shape of the charge cover on the configuration and velocity of explosively formed projectile (EFP) were analyzed. Also, the influence of bracket’ geometric shape and the arrangement patterns of the charge covers on the distribution characters of MEFP were also studied. On these bases, three different kind of integral multiple explosively formed warheads were proposed and the penetration performance and distribution characters of MEFP were verified by experiments. The results show that: When inner and outer vertex angle of the arc plane charge cover is 130° and 135°, the EFP changes to the long rod type with the length to diameter ratio about 16. The cabochon bracket is helpful for obtaining good EFP configuration and improving the scattering angle and distribution homogeneity of MEFP. The equidistant array pattern is superior to the circular array pattern to obtain the better distribution homogeneity of MEFP.
