Skin-Core Structure Gun Propellants with High Combustion Progressivity
Abstract
Skin-core structure propellants were fabricated using chemical foaming agent AIBN. The thickness of skin and the apparent density of foamed propellants decreased with the foaming agent amount from 0.92 mm to 0.51 mm, 1.35 g/cm3 to 0.79 g/cm3, respectively. The burning characteristics of foamed propellants with skin-core structure were investigated by closed bomb test and the results showed that the skin-core structure propellants having the appropriate skin thickness have an advantage of burning progressivity. Simultaneously, there was an apparent transition point between the combustion of solid skin and foamed core, the transition pressure increased with the increased skin thickness.
