Abstract

Take a series of scaled projectiles with the same quality, diameter, and different nose shape as the research objects, combined with numerical simulation and test of artillery, studied the influence of nose shapes to the projectile’s attitude changes in the process of oblique penetrating through a steel plate. In the process of research and analysis, the projectile’s axis rotation angle was the primary focus, the influence law of two main nose shape parameters: radius of curvature and truncated diameter were analyzed. The results show that, nose shape significantly affects the stress changes in the process of penetrating, causing obvious body attitude changes in direction and velocity; after penetrated target, the attack angle was increased with the curvature diameter ratio and decreases with the truncated diameter. Compared with sharp ogival nose projectile, truncated-ogival-nose projectile can reduce the axis rotation velocity, to ensure a well consistency body attitude fore-and-aft the penetration.
