Design Optimization to Fabrication with HyperX Laminate Families for Traditional Quad 0/45/90 and Double-Double [±Φ/±Ψ] Layups
Abstract
Traditional Quad and novel Double-Double laminate designs have been investigated using the HyperX design/optimization software for a panel with a large circular cutout. Parametric studies were performed based on varying the panel loading to compare the optimized masses of Quad and Double-Double designs for a uniform panel, a panel with a single buildup region around the cutout, and a fully optimized panel where the thickness and layup are varied throughout the panel. Finally, following the same optimization procedures in HyperX, a Quad demonstration test panel was designed and manufactured via hand layup and vacuum infusion.
