Full-Field Experimental Analysis of Sandwich Plates/Beams Under Bending
Abstract
A composite sandwich structure made with woven face sheets and a relatively compliant core was loaded in 3-point bending. An image was captured of the specimen before and after deformation, which was then analyzed with a Digital Image Correlation (DIC) program. The displacements and strain fields were obtained for the specimen. The deflection of the beam was compared with 5 theoretical model and 1 numerical solution for a sandwich beam experiencing loading in a 3-point bending configuration.
