Lessons Learned in Certifying Space Structures

Abstract

Oversight organizations share the goals of designers including the production of a robust structure with the desired performance that meets cost, schedule, and mission requirements. This paper provides lessons learned that have been gained during certification assessments of space flight structures. These lessons learned have been categorized into the following categories: communication, the building block approach, evaluation of the baseline structural design, and the evaluation of as-built hardware.
