Cyclic Corrosion of Composite-Based Lightweight Material Single Lap Joints
Abstract
This study investigates the effect of cyclic salt-fog spray on the static performance of bonded multi-material lightweight single lap joints. Adherends material combinations include composite-composite, composite-aluminum and compositemagnesium. Tensile shear tests are carried out to monitor the effect of the number of corrosion cycles on the decay of joint static load transfer capacity, as compared to the baseline values before corrosion exposure. Failure analysis of the fracture surfaces is conducted using an optical stereoscopy.
