Real-Time Impact Identification by Using Acceleration Measurements—Application to a Large Aircraft Composite Panel
Abstract
This study presents a new impact identification technique that can simultaneously localize an impact event within a complex structure and assess its severity. The proposed approach is based on a rigorous definition of the impact point signature in the vibration response. An impact test campaign is performed on an A350 aircraft crown panel equipped with a network of eight accelerometers. Results show that a single accelerometer can successfully localize 88% of the applied impacts. The use of all the accelerometers increases the robustness of the proposed technique.
