Optimization of Bio-Inspired Piezoelectric Composite Hair Sensor—Mechanical Impedance Matching

Abstract


A number of animal sensing systems are based on hair sensor mechanism. This paper analyzes the responses of hair sensor using analytical model and coupled finite element analyses. The results from the analytical and numerical model are compared. The mechanical matching of hair sensor is found to have significant effect on sensor performance. Based on the analysis, optimal design is obtained and corresponding materials and geometries of the sensor components are recommended.
