Modeling Mixed Traffic Flow at a Crosswalk with Push Button

Abstract


A signalized crosswalk with push button is considered to be a useful strategy to promote the road capacity. In this paper, a cellular automaton model is proposed to depict the interaction between pedestrians and vehicles. By numerical simulations, characteristics of vehicle flow with various arriving rate of pedestrians are investigated. Flux curves are presented to show different traffic states. The effect of green time for vehicles after the time that the button is pushed by a pedestrian is also investigated. It is expected the results to be helpful to the strategy design of a signalized crosswalk
