Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of the Dynamic Axial Crushing of Empty Hexagonal Tube
Abstract
A non-linear, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of empty hexagonal tube subjected to dynamic loading is studied and compared with experimental results. The type and final mode of deformation is also studied and compared with FEA. Good agreement is obtained between FEA and experiments for mean load, energy absorption and plastic fold length as well as the deforming mode. The dynamic energy absorption and dynamic mean load is about 1.5 times that of the quasi-static value
