Numerical Simulation of Ahmed Model in Consideration of the FSI Effect

Abstract


Fluid-solid interaction (FSI) effect between crosswind and moving vehicle has an impact on the driving safety. ALE and weak coupling method are applied to simulate the Ahmed model under crosswind in consideration of the FSI effect. It is found that the change in aerodynamic forces is mainly caused by the varying topological structure of vortices. The lift forces on the body changes much more than other forces when the FSI effect is considered. The present study has set up the theoretical basis for the research in the FSI effect on vehicles under unsteady crosswind in the future
