Geometrically Nonlinear Analysis of Simple Plane Frames of Functionally Graded Materials

Abstract


Governing equations for static large deformation of simple plane frames made from functionally graded materials were formulated based on an accurate geometrically nonlinear theory for axially extensive curved beams. The material properties of the frame are assumed to be varied continuously in the thickness direction. Nonlinear ordinary differential equations with the boundary conditions are solved by using a numerical shooting method. As computational examples, response of static bending of a square FGM frame subjected to diagonally concentrated compression were presented.
