Abstract

This paper empirically examines the trade patterns of the Korean agricultural manufactures to assess how much the Korean trade policy restricts the imports of this product category. We employ the annual trade data ranging from 1976 to 2016 to obtain the revealed symmetric comparative advantage and the net export ratio, and use the difference between the two indicators to capture the direction and the strength of the government interference. The empirical results show that Korea contrarily facilitates the imports of agricultural manufactures. In other words, Korea imports more agricultural manufactures than the comparative advantage predicts.
