Preparation of Starch Carbon-Based Solid Acid Catalyst

Abstract


A carbon-based solid acid catalyst was prepared from starch. The performances of the catalyst were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry (TG), and the effect of preparation conditions on catalyst activity was investigated by using the catalyst surface acidity. The results showed that the optimal preparation conditions of the catalyst were: The ratio of carbon product with the concentration of sulfuric acid 1:20, the carbonation temperature 180°C, the carbonation time 5h, the sulfonation temperature 110°C, the sulfonation time 10h.The carbon-based solid acid catalyst was the amorphous carbon structure, and the considerable heat stability below 170°C.
