The Calculation Method Research on Flexural Capacity of Normal Section of Reinforced Concrete Beams Strengthened with CFRP Plates on the Side

The results of experiments at home and abroad show that using CFRP plates on the side to strengthen reinforced concrete beams can improve the mechanical performance obviously. However, there are no relevant design provisions in current Chinese codes. This paper presents that the calculation method research on flexural capacity of normal section of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with CFRP Plates on the side and 2 failure modes are put forward based on analysis of the ultimate bearing capacity state of flexural section. In order to verify the proposed formulas, experimental studies on 6 concrete beams strengthened with CFRP Plates on the side are carried out, and the results are compared with the formulas, which has a good applicability.
