Study on Phosphate Removal from Water Using Zinc Hydroxide

Abstract


Zinc hydroxide was used for the removal of phosphate from water. The effect of pH, adsorbent dosage and reaction time on the removal of phosphate was studied. The results showed that pH had significant effect on phosphate removal, the optimum pH for the removal of phosphate was 8.0. The removal percentage of phosphate increased with the increase of adsorbent dosage. The adsorption of phosphate by zinc hydroxide was rapid, the adsorption percentage could reach 82% in 10 min. It was also found that the adsorption isotherm of phosphate removal could be described by Langmuir equation, the Langmuir equation constant Q0 was 112.4 mg/g.
