A BOD Kinetic Model for Municipal Sewage Based on Monod Equation

Abstract


Based on Monod equation this paper establishes a new BOD kinetic model—Monod-BOD model which can fit well with the data tested from BOD5 respirometric measurement. Comparisons with the Residual Sum of Squares (RSS), correlation index and Model Selection Criterion (MSC) between the two models show that Monod-BOD is superior to the first order kinetic model. The paired-sample sign test method was used with a =0.001(n=17) and Ar=3, the results show clearly that all the three items have significant differences. The Monod-BOD can be used to depict the organics degrading process in municipal sewage measurement.
