The Method of Estimating the Number of Access Channels in M2M Communication Based on the Queuing Theory

Abstract

M2M communication has a large number of data packets contributing to the base station within a short period of time. Due to the fact that the number of resources required is limited, only parts of the packets can access to the base station. To efficiently utilize the access channels, we need to estimate the optimal number. In the paper, we attempt to estimate the number of access channels serving for packets, based on the queuing modelMX  / M / c /  . The relationships between the average queue length with the number of channels and the queuing time with the number of channels are obtained from mathematical formulas. The simulation finds the best channel number to achieve the overall throughput in the system.
