The Development and Realization System for Calculating GIC of Pipelines

Abstract

Geomagnetic disturbances (GMD)induce the pipe-to-soil potential(PSP) and geomagnetic induced current (GIC) in pipelines, which may trigger the pipeline steel corrosion. For accessing the impact of geomagnetic disturbances on pipelines, a system has been established to simulate the PSP and GIC. Based on magnetic dates from magnetic observatories, earth conductivity and pipeline parameter, this system has accomplished calculating the PSP and GIC in the pipeline and flowing to/from ground through ground resistances. We also have considered pipelines whether have branch or not, through time-variation and distance-variation such two forms to establish the computation system.
