Research on the EFP/PELE Multi-Mode Conversion Warhead Technology Based on the VESF Initiation System
Abstract
The EFP/PELE multi-mode kill element is obtained by adjusting the detonation waveform. Considering the instability of the installation process when the partition is used as the waveform adjuster, a new type of the EFP/PELE multi-mode Warhead based on the VESF initiation system is designed in this paper. The influence of liner materials on the damage effect were compared and analyzed. The results show that the larger the elastic modulus of the outer liner material is, the more favorable it is for the PELE forming, which is not conducive to the EFP forming. The large difference in acoustic impedance between the liner materials will lead to overstretch of the inner liner. The inner liner material with small elastic modulus and large Poisson's ratio is suitable for the lateral effect of projectile. Considering comprehensively, the multi-mode kill element has the best performance when the liner is composed of Iron-Teflon.
