Analysis of the Effect of RDX Particle Size in Propellant on Gun Interior Ballistic Performance
Abstract
In order to improve the energy of the propellant ,a certain proportion of RDX was added into the propellant formulation. Through the text and analysis of the combustion performance of the propellant sample with 50μm and 10μm particle size RDX added by 100ml closed combustion apparatus, It is concluded that different particle size of RDX has no influence on the energy of propellant. Compared with the propellant containing 10μm particle size RDX,the propellant containing 50μm particle size RDX has higher burning rate index, abnormal burning rate under high and low temperature conditions, and higher burning rate temperature coefficient. The impact crushing test device was used to test the mechanical properties of the propellant with different particle size RDX at low temperature. It was found that compared with 10μm particle size RDX,the propellant with 50μm particle size RDX had more serious breakage and worse mechanical properties. By using zerodimensional interior ballistic model to carry out interior ballistic simulation calcelation and using artilley to carry out shooting test,It was analyzed and verfied that the propellant containing 10μm particle size RDX in the charge had better internal ballistic performance in the initial stage. The conclusion is that the propellant with different particle size RDX should be used in charge structure for different internal ballistic pressure range. This is provides a reference for the study of high-energy propellant and the study of the internal ballistic of barrel weapons.
