Modifications of the Closed Vessel Test Results Analysis Method
Abstract
Some modifications of the closed vessel test results analysis method have been proposed. The first modification concerns the method of smoothing pressure records. It was shown that the Loess algorithm is very effective for smoothing very perturbed pressure records. The second modification consists in the shape function approximation method. The third modification concerns the method of determining the value of the exponent in the burning law. Two methods have been proposed. The first uses the geometric burning law. The second method is based on the physical burning law. It was shown that when the burning process of a propellant in the closed vessel obeys the geometric law, the two methods give close dependence of the burning rate on the pressure. However, when the burning process deviates from the geometric law, only the second method provides reliable results. The Loess algorithm and the shape function approximation method are described in the appendices.
