STANISLAV ROLC, JAN KRESTAN, JOSEF KRATKY, JAROSLAV BUCHAR

Abstract

Three types of porous raw particle materials based on expanded glass, ceramics and polymeric microspheres in combination with polymeric binder were used to design a new type of blast wave energy absorber. The effect of binder amount and type of filler on the static and dynamic properties of designed materials was evaluated. The developed material was used as the interlayer of blast resistant litter bin. Series of experiments of the response of given litter bin to TNT explosive charges of different weight (up to 3 kg) were performed. Numerical simulation of the experiments was performed using of LS DYNA finite element code. The detonation of 3 kg TNT did not cause any fracture of the outer steel layer. This conclusion has been verified for different position of the TNT charge. Good agreement was concluded between the results of the blast experiments and numerical simulations.
