Testing of Homogeneous Rocket Propellants by the Use of Real Time Roentgenoscopy

Abstract


This paper describes a method allows to check the constancy of burning surface area of homogeneous propellant grain located in subscale rocket motor. Observations were conducted with the use of X-ray system, contained the X-ray tube and the semiconductor detector or analog detector coupled with Phantom high speed camera. This system gave the possibility of recorded up to 300 frames per second. Analysis of individual photographs enabled to get to know of stability and speed of the burning process and also shape of the burning surface area. The applied testing method allowed to get information on the character of the combustion process of the new kind of rocket propellants and rocket propellants after the long-term storage.
