Abstract

Experiments have shown remarkable similarities between the debonding of carbon fiber reinforced polymer facesheets from the aluminum honeycomb sandwich core on the one hand and the delamination of monolithic laminates on the other hand under the influence of severe fiber bridging. A mixed-mode cohesive zone formulation which was shown to describe the mode I debonding of sandwich panel exhibiting severe fiber bridging has been extended to also address mixed-mode behavior. The model has been calibrated with pure mode I and pure mode II experiments. The validation has been performed with mixed mode experiments without additional mixed mode parameters. The results obtained with the mixed-mode formulation are presented herein.
